Post #1: why write a lab blog?

As I was thinking of what to write, the first thing that came to mind was that this is actually my own Captain’s log! Yes, I am a Trekkie. So today’s star date is 68757.2.

In fact, the whole lab are into SciFi and Fantasy, as good engineers may be expected to be. So our lab computers are all appropriately named. From the strongest – Aslan, Thor, and Orson (Welles!) all the way to Atlantis (our microscope computer, where we discover all the fun new stuff!).

The idea of this blog is to reveal a bit of the behind the scenes of daily, academic research life. My students and I will be uploading entries and will share some of our triumphs along with some of the frustrations. Science is great fun, but not all the time!
